Park Area Supervisor Job Description

Job Title: Park Area Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Park Area Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of assigned parks, athletic fields, and facilities. This includes supervising a team of park maintenance workers, performing complex maintenance tasks, and ensuring that all work is completed to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a team of park maintenance workers to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Perform complex maintenance tasks, including horticultural work, tree pruning, irrigation repairs, and equipment operation and repairs.
  • Ensure that all work is completed to a high standard and meets district standards.
  • Operate District vehicles and equipment, including tractors, mowers, and sports field maintenance equipment.
  • Perform inspections to ensure that parks, shelters, playgrounds, and facilities are in clean and orderly condition.
  • Lead in the safe practices, handling and storage of chemicals, and assist with safety training.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports manually or by computer.
  • Respond to emergencies and inquiries from employees and the public.

Requirements:

  • Equivalent to high school graduate and four years' experience in park or landscape maintenance or related area, of which two years has been in supervising or leading employees in the care and maintenance of park and landscaped areas.
  • College course work in horticulture, park maintenance or related field, trade school, certification by an affiliated agency of the horticulture profession, or possession of a CA Contractors License C27-Landscaping is desirable.
  • Must possess the appropriate license and/or certification required for the specific area of responsibility assigned or must be able to obtain within one year of appointment.
  • Must possess a valid CA Class "C" driver's license throughout employment.

Working Conditions:

Work activities are performed in an outdoor work environment, in all weather conditions, a standard shop, driving from site to site, operating various vehicles and related equipment.

Work near moving mechanical parts and frequent exposure to fumes and airborne particles, equipment vibrations and loud noises. Work in confined areas and various heights.

Work activities include lifting to 50 lbs., carrying, and moving heavy objects, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, climbing, operating a truck, tractor, cart, and related equipment, reading and communicating with others.

Required to work nights, weekends, holidays and multiple shifts when needed.
