Key Responsibilities- Prepare and fill routine orders for prescribed medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Restock automated dispensing machines and repack medications as needed.
- Compound both sterile and non-sterile medications, adhering to strict quality and safety standards.
- Abide by recommendations from regulatory and advisory groups regarding safe medication principles, including look-alike, sound-alike, and high-alert drugs.
- Respond appropriately to medication occurrences and take necessary actions to ensure patient safety.
- Participate in meetings and committees, representing the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
- Assist pharmacists in obtaining patient-specific information for safe medication management.
- Contribute to the achievement of established department goals and objectives, adhering to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards.
- Comply with governmental and accreditation regulations, ensuring medications are properly and safely stored throughout the hospital.
- Store medications under conditions necessary to ensure stability and security, and refill and replace medications in automated medication dispensing machines as needed.
- Label all medications and chemicals used to prepare medications with contents, expiration dates, and appropriate warnings.
- Inspect medication storage areas regularly, adhering to hospital policies.
- Participate in the evaluation of the hospital's medication management system for risk points and identify areas to improve safety.
- Safely and accurately prepare all medications in the most ready-to-administer form, using proper techniques, calculations, and precautions.
- Maintain documentation for all repackaged medications as required by departmental policy.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Completion of an approved/accredited Pharmacy Technician training program preferred.
- 1 year 6 months related pharmacy technician experience and hospital environment experience preferred.
- Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Board of Pharmacy required.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification within 180 Days required.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of drug nomenclature and medical terminology; proficiency in basic mathematics, including fractions and decimals.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
