Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Health and Welfare Benefits Manager to join our team at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL).

About the Job

This role will serve as the first point of contact for the benefits customer service team, providing guidance on health and welfare benefit questions and issues. You will support staff development, assist with monitoring government regulations and market trends, lead review and edits to plan documents, and lead benefit communication efforts.

You will enhance customer service to staff and retirees by providing direction and support on health and welfare plan benefits. You will also provide education to support team learning opportunities and cross-training, and present details to staff virtually and/or in person.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight to the benefits portion of new staff orientation
  • Lead efforts to review and make edits to plan documents
  • Partner with Legal and external vendors to ensure documentation is up-to-date and compliant
  • Lead benefit communication efforts, including web site updates and creation and maintenance of materials for use by staff benefits, Talent Services partners, and all laboratory staff and retirees
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related subject area or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years specialized health and welfare plan management experience
  • Minimum of 2 years leading or directing work of staff members
  • Ability to mentor and develop staff, cultivate positive relationships and contribute to building a strong team
  • Strong subject matter expert in health and welfare benefit plans and current regulatory requirements
  • Workday human resources information system experience
