About the Role:

The Multiplatform Editor is a key member of our business news team, responsible for shaping and sharpening stories and ideas to engage our audience. This role requires a seasoned editor with a passion for business and financial news, who can help writers elevate their work and make complex topics accessible to a broad consumer audience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Edit breaking business news stories, working closely with reporters and writers to ensure accuracy and fairness.
  • Coordinate business coverage throughout the day, collaborating with programming, planning, and other editorial teams to ensure seamless execution.
  • Edit work published across CNN's mobile and desktop sites, apps, social accounts, and other platforms, ensuring consistency and quality.
  • Help reporters craft multiplatform stories that can be told on air, video, audio, and digital text, highlighting distinctive angles and creative approaches.
  • Edit stories that explain complex financial information to a general news audience, using clear and concise language.
  • Shape story ideas and angles around complex topics, working closely with writers and reporters to identify key themes and narratives.
  • Serve as a second set of eyes on alerts or key pieces, providing feedback and suggestions to enhance the story.
  • Partner with writers to identify distinctive angles on top stories, helping to make good stories great and engaging for our audience.
  • CNN editors must be excellent communicators and diplomats, providing feedback that elevates CNN's storytelling across a wide range of platforms.
  • Assist with live stories that are an essential part of our breaking news coverage, working closely with the team to ensure accuracy and fairness.
  • Be skeptical, but not cynical, and genuinely excited by the changes and disruptions to the US economy and beyond, while taking a critical look at why those changes are taking place.
  • Ensure that all news editors work intently to make sure our stories are accurate and fair, growing the trust between CNN and our audiences.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of digital experience
  • College degree or equivalent industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of or passion for business and financial news
  • Excellent editing skills
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities
  • Strong editorial judgement
  • Strong communication, team collaboration skills
