Opportunity OverviewSheppard Pratt hospital programs in Maryland serve individuals with acute psychiatric and behavioral health needs. The preceptorship provides a unique opportunity for students to learn from experienced professionals in a multidisciplinary team setting.
Preceptorship Details
• Collaborate with a licensed Nurse Practitioner or physician in a 1:1 supervision model
• Learn from a variety of patient populations and experiences
• Develop skills in stabilization of psychiatric symptoms, skill acquisition, and transition planning
Eligibility Requirements
• Current student of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program
• Masters or doctoral level student
• Enrollment at an academic Institution with an existing contract/affiliation agreement with Sheppard Pratt
• License nurse (BSN) with readiness to learn and patience when working with challenging patient populations
Preceptorship Time Frame
Approximately hours per preceptorship starting in January-April. The start date is flexible.
Learning Model
Nurse Practitioner/DNP is part of the continuum of care and collaborates with the multidisciplinary team. Supervision is provided in a 1:1 supervision model by an assigned licensed Nurse practitioner or physician. No telehealth, preceptorship is strictly in person.
Student Expectations
Student expectations include learning 1:1 from a licensed NP or physician, readiness to learn from all experiences and patient population, patience and compassion when working with this challenging patient population. The preceptorship allows students the opportunity to be in the community where they will work with a professional in the same field.
