Nurse Residency Program in Bone Marrow Transplant Unit

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at OU Health. This role offers a unique opportunity to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals undergoing allogeneic transplants from peripheral blood, bone marrow, or umbilical cord blood from related and unrelated donors.
About Our UnitThe 12-bed Bone Marrow Transplant unit is located on the 5th floor of our new patient bed tower. As a nurse on this unit, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive care to patients before, during, and after their transplant procedure. We are proud to be Oklahoma's only cellular therapy and comprehensive stem cell transplant program, offering CAR-T (chimeric antigen receptor T cell) therapy as well.
Detailed Job DescriptionThis RN Resident position requires less than one year of experience, with preference given to those with no prior nursing experience. If you have more than one year of RN experience, please consider applying for positions titled "Experienced RN."
The OU Health Nurse Residency Program provides graduate nurses with the resources and rich experiences necessary for a successful nursing career. You will receive guidance and support from a primary preceptor and clinical education specialist to bridge the transition from student to professional practice. The program features ongoing structured learning opportunities, a strong social support network, mentoring, and preparation to obtain national certification in your chosen specialty area.
To be eligible for this program, candidates must have a current RN license or compact RN license to practice in Oklahoma prior to beginning the program and have less than one year of RN clinical experience.
Key Responsibilities- Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
- Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; note all changes in physician orders on assigned patients.
- Assist physicians in examinations and minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.
- Obtain and monitor physiological data of patients, observe manifestations, and intervene when necessary.
- Administer medications as prescribed and initiate, regulate, and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products.
- Deliver patient care competently.
- Interact with family and patient in sharing care plans while in the hospital and at discharge.
- Inform patients and families of hospital procedures.
- Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
- Delegate tasks to support staff.
To succeed in this role, you must:
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- Hold a current RN license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a compact RN License (eNLC).
- Have Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association upon hire, and ACLS certification within one year of employment.
- Obtain Fundamentals of Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Administration - Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) within one year of hire.
