Job Summary

As Assistant Director of Engineering, you will assist the department head in managing the budget, capital expenditures, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation. You will be accountable for maintaining the building and grounds, ensuring safety, security, and asset protection. You will assign, track, and follow up on the status of work assigned to staff and contractors. You will help increase guest and employee satisfaction through effective communications and training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the management of department operations and engineering budgets
  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs
  • Help establish priorities for total property maintenance needs
  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of Engineering
  • Assist in managing the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical, and life safety systems
  • Maintain and operate equipment at optimum effectiveness, efficiency, and safety
  • Supervise the distribution of repair work orders
  • Assist in maintaining grounds, meeting rooms, ballrooms, public space, restaurants, property vehicles, and recreational facilities as needed
  • Act as a technical liaison for all departments in the property
  • Supervise Engineering in the absence of the Director of Engineering
  • Recommend or arrange for additional services, such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment
  • Select and make purchases of new equipment, supplies, and furnishings
  • Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities to determine the type of work required
  • Manage parts, supplies, and equipment inventories effectively to minimize downtime and maximize cash flow
  • Perform inspections effectively
  • Assist in evaluating and implementing new technologies, equipment, and supplies
  • Assist in establishing and implementing an energy conservation program

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; 4 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related professional area; technical training in HVAC-R/electrical/plumbing
  • 2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related major; 2 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related professional area; technical training in HVAC-R/electrical/plumbing

Benefits

Marriott offers a competitive salary range of $75,000 to $97,000 annually, a bonus program, comprehensive health care benefits, 401(k) plan with up to 5% company match, employee stock purchase plan at 15% discount, accrued paid time off (including sick leave where applicable), life insurance, group disability insurance, travel discounts, adoption assistance, paid parental leave, health savings account (except for positions based out of or performed in Hawaii), flexible spending accounts, tuition assistance, pre-tax commuter benefits, other life and work wellness benefits, and may include other incentives such as stock awards and deferred compensation plans.
