- Must Float to all Stepdown/Advanced Care units
The unit participates in a team nursing model where RNs, LPNs, and PCTs partner together to care for a group of patients. The goal of this model is to divide the work and not the patients, ultimately improving both the workload and patient care. Nurses may function in either team nursing or primary nursing depending on the needs of the unit.
Unit Details:
Working with tele/drips/vents, this step-down/advanced care unit focuses on trauma patients with multi-system injuries. We see a combination of neuro ortho and surgical (mainly abdominal surgeries) patients as our highest populations. Drips that we see frequently are heparin Cardizem insulin and ketamine. We do have the capability to do DKA and amiodarone as well as a few others less common. PCAs and epidurals are commonly seen on our unit as well. Our staff are trained to perform moderate sedation for procedures like chest tube insertion and wound debridement as well.
