We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as an Management Intern in the City Manager's Office for Summer 2025.

Job Summary

This internship will introduce local MPP and MPA graduate students to potential careers in local government management. The selected candidate will work in the City Manager's Office on a variety of special projects and research assignments that directly impact the residents of Durham.

Responsibilities
  • Conducts a variety of research and assigned projects by compiling and reviewing internal and external organizational information, reviewing historical data, information and reports, and preparing position and issue papers.
  • Gather, clean, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate and draw insights into programs and processes; understand and perform statistical analyses to determine effectiveness of City programs.
  • Prepares and presents reports or formal presentations as appropriate.
  • Ensures equitable considerations are a core part of projects.
  • Facilitates and leads interviews, focus groups, and user testing with City staff, leadership, and community members to gather various perspectives.
Requirements
  • Must be enrolled in a Master of Public Administration (MPA) or Master of Public Policy (MPP) program.
  • Available full time for at least eight weeks between May and August 2025.
Working Conditions

This is a temporary position with a salary of $23,000 - $24,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include access to professional development opportunities and a chance to work on exciting projects that make a difference in the community.
