Job Description:

The Special Education and Student Support Coordinator plays a crucial role in enhancing student outcomes, fostering family engagement, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. This position focuses on promoting an inclusive, respectful, and engaging environment for all students and ensuring equitable access to education for students with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve student outcomes for students with disabilities and those placed at risk.
  • Ensure students with disabilities participate in the general education environment per their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Facilitate and monitor the implementation of Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) and Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
Professional Development and Instructional Support:
  • Provide coaching and support for special education teachers and related service providers.
  • Support teachers in implementing research-based instructional, social-emotional, and behavioral practices.
  • Assist with the alignment of student schedules to IEPs and 504 plans.
Family and Community Engagement:
  • Engage families in the IEP process and provide assistance with school assignments.
  • Promote culturally competent practices at all levels.
Compliance and Administrative Duties:
  • Chair original, re-evaluation, and emergency placement team meetings.
  • Develop, review, and track IEPs and Section 504 Accommodation Plans.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal special education laws and regulations, including Medicaid reimbursement activities.
  • Manage scheduling, assessments, consents, notices, progress reports, and other documentation.
Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Support the evaluation of teachers, special education teachers, and related service providers.
  • Facilitate Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Student Support Team (SST) meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Principal/Head of School to coordinate the continuum of settings and array of services for students with disabilities.
  • Chair team meetings for students transitioning from private placements or requiring Section 504 evaluations.
Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
  • Current certification in special education administration or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in special education teaching or administration.
  • Deep understanding of state and federal regulations related to special education and Section 504.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Experience with family and community engagement practices.
  • Familiarity with MTSS, SST, IEP development, and culturally competent practices.
