Join Our Team as a Principal Data Scientist, AI Foundations

At Capital One, we're pushing the boundaries of AI and machine learning to transform financial services. As a Principal Data Scientist, AI Foundations, you'll be part of a talented team that's building and shipping state-of-the-art scalable architecture, AI/ML solutions for our award-winning mobile app.

You'll partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products that change how customers interact with their money. With a broad stack of technologies, including PyTorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Hugging Face, LangChain, Lightning, and VectorDBs, you'll reveal insights hidden within huge volumes of numeric and textual data.

As an expert in Natural Language Processing (NLP), you'll harness the power of Large Language Models (LLMs), adapt and fine-tune them for customer-facing applications and features. You'll build machine learning and NLP models through all phases of development, from design through training, evaluation, and validation, partnering with engineering teams to operationalize them in scalable and resilient production systems that serve 80+ million customers.

The ideal candidate is a customer-first individual who loves analyzing and creating, but also shares our passion for doing the right thing. You'll be innovative, continually researching and evaluating emerging technologies, and stay current on published state-of-the-art methods, technologies, and applications. You'll be a creative problem-solver, thriving on bringing definition to big, undefined problems, and a leader who challenges conventional thinking and works with stakeholders to identify and improve the status quo.

Basic qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years of experience in data analytics or a Master's Degree plus 3 years in data analytics. Preferred qualifications include a Master's Degree in a STEM field plus 3 years of experience in data analytics or a PhD in a STEM field. At least 1 year of experience in open-source programming languages for large-scale data analysis, machine learning, and relational databases is required.
