Toxicology Specialist for Pediatric Care

We are seeking a highly skilled Toxicology Specialist to join our team at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. As a specialist in poison information, you will play a crucial role in providing timely and accurate advice to callers regarding potential poisoning exposures.
Job SummaryThis part-time position (24 hours/week) requires a pre-certified Poison Information Specialist who has undergone extensive training. You will work under general guidance and direction, utilizing standard poison information resources to provide logical and concise evaluations of potential poisonings and treatment recommendations.
Responsibilities- Triage all incoming calls within 5 rings and do not put callers on hold until at least initial triage is performed.
- Assess human poisoning exposures by telephone consultation from the public and health care professionals, providing information regarding animal poisonings when such information is available.
- Obtain a complete history on poisoning emergency, information and follow-up calls, and provide the caller with a calm evaluation of the incident and make complete, concise and relevant recommendations for therapy.
- Demonstrate a courteous, reassuring and helpful manner during interactions with callers, disengaging politely from those seeking information not applicable to the services of Poison Control.
- Utilize Poison Control Center (PCC) information resources, including but not limited to, the Micromedex database, to provide accurate and timely information regarding poisoned patients.
- Familiarity with PCC protocols and current hospital policies.
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field (RN or Pharmacist) Required.
- Clinical experience in a hospital setting Preferred.
- Telephone triage experience Preferred.
- Licensed Pharmacist (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - within 3 months - Required, or Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - within 3 months - Required.
The estimated salary for this position is around $60,000-$80,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as paid time off and holidays.
