About the Role:

Cytogenetics Technologists play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of genetic disorders. As a Cytogenetics Technologist at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, you will be responsible for collecting and preparing biological specimens for cytogenetic analyses, using aseptic techniques and appropriate containers and instruments. Your attention to detail and ability to accurately record patient demographics and relevant history will be essential in ensuring the quality of our cytogenetic services.

Key Responsibilities:

- Collect and prepare biological specimens for cytogenetic analyses
- Accurately record patient demographics and relevant history
- Culture cells of various types using appropriate biohazard and/or aseptic techniques
- Select and monitor cell growth
- Harvest cell cultures using appropriate techniques
- Prepare microscopic slides using routine and banding techniques
- Analyze chromosome preparations and prepare karyotypes

Requirements:

- Bachelor Degree in Biology, Medical Technology or other physical or natural science field
- One year of training or experience in clinical cytogenetic field
- Certification as Clinical Laboratory Specialist in Cytogenetics by ASCP is required
