Picture Framer

This position is responsible for framing patron artwork or pictures following work order specifications. The incumbent will select finished wood or wood substitute/material from existing stock, measure and use a chopper to cut material to desired dimensions, and cut stock with a cutter or miter saw and glue or nail frame corners together.

• Select and prepare materials for framing
• Assemble picture frames using hand and power tools
• Cut mat board to achieve special cutting effects specified in the work order
• Measure and cut fabric or paper mat material, mount artwork to mat or backing assembly, and secure work with retention staples
• Use a computer graphics program to engrave lettering and ornamental designs on metal and plastic pieces
• Assist patrons by demonstrating picture framing and matting techniques, including use and safety practices of shop equipment
• Plan and conduct various instructional classes and demonstrations in picture framing
• Display completed items in various base activities to promote classes
• Work closely with marketing office in advertisement of classes, provide information for flyers, base newspaper, etc.
• Provide accurate price quotes of materials required to complete projects
• Perform the work specified on orders, ensuring the work is accurate and professional
• Perform minor maintenance on all equipment
• Clean equipment and work area to ensure a safe working environment
