General Manager Job Description

Ascent Hospitality Management is seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Manager to lead our hotel operations. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of exceptional guest service and financial profitability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily hotel operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.
  • Lead and direct all hotel departments, including rooms, housekeeping, food and beverage, and engineering.
  • Develop and implement sales and marketing programs, and quarterly sales strategy reports.
  • Participate in sales discussions, meetings, and sales calls, and maintain relationships with key account executives and business partners.
  • Involved in community and government affairs, and create the hotel's annual budget.
  • Manage the hotel through a hands-on approach, motivating employees, ensuring employee development and retention, and conducting regular employee meetings.
  • Ensure outstanding guest service and adherence to all brand standards.
  • Protect the hotel and its assets through preventative maintenance programs.
  • Adhere to all franchise and company procedures and regulations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Comply with all corporate accounting procedures.
  • Inspect property daily, and enforce the implementation of actions toward the safety, comfort, and cleanliness of the hotel and guest satisfaction.
  • Conduct daily huddles, and hold weekly leadership meetings with agendas.
  • Select, train, and direct department managers and supervisors, and other employees as necessary.
  • Monitor performance, develop and guide employees in career paths, and conduct performance appraisals and personal development plans.
  • Aggressively reduce accidents, and minimize worker's compensation and unemployment claims.
  • Remain highly visible, and be readily available for guests at all times.
  • Take initiative to offer assistance or answer questions throughout the hotel.
  • Thoroughly understand and implement the Brand service culture.
  • Adhere to action plans and budget concepts (revenues, costs, etc.).
  • Develop actions for improvement and cost savings.
  • Coordinate planning of management team with regard to timetables, work schedules, recruitment, and training of employees.
  • Available to work front desk shifts as needed (min 2 days) when running below 30%.
  • Involvement and follow-up on all guest complaints, incidents, and accidents.
  • Maintain contacts with public authorities in regard to licensing.
  • Attend monthly department employee meetings whenever possible.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience as Hotel Manager with an emphasis on sales.
  • Must have 3-5 plus years' prior experience as a General Manager.
  • College education preferred.
  • Understanding of all hotel management best practices and relevant laws and guidelines.
  • Demonstrable aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Reliable with an ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.
  • Outstanding leadership skills and a great attention to detail.
