Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to patients of all ages, birth through geriatric, and document that care according to policy and procedure guidelines.
  • Carry out other patient care and operational duties for the Speech Pathology Department as indicated.
  • Use critical thinking and judgment in the provision of care, performing all aspects of treatment based on accepted national, departmental, and evidence-based standards.
  • Document in a timely, accurate manner, which supports medical necessity in accordance with department standards.
  • Submit required paperwork for billing, accurate charges, and authorizations, demonstrating appropriate use of time management according to departmental productivity standards.
  • Demonstrate initiative in individual professional development, completing all education required by the Monument Health system and for licensure/certification in a timely manner.
  • Provide supervision according to state, federal, and professional association standards.
  • Incorporate and educate patient, family, and caregivers in treatment, goal setting, and discharge planning as appropriate.
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements as it pertains to insurance, accrediting bodies, national, and state regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • Education - Masters degree in Speech Pathology
  • Certification - SD Speech Language Pathology License - South Dakota Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathology; Certificate of Clinical Competence - American Speech Hearing Association (ASHA); OR Clinical Fellowship Year to obtain Certificate of Clinical Competence
  • Preferred: Experience - 1+ years of Rehabilitation Experience; Certification - Speech Therapist (ST) Certification - American Speech Hearing Association (ASHA)

Physical Requirements

Heavy work - exerting up to 25 pounds of force constantly, and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues. Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours.
