The Los Angeles Cancer Network is dedicated to providing exceptional care to our patients. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our patients receive the highest level of care and support.
Responsibilities:- Answer and direct incoming calls, taking messages and routing new patient requests and prescription refill requests.
- Obtain and document patient information, including insurance details and preferred pharmacy.
- Collect co-pays and note any issues in the EMR.
- Room patients and direct them to the waiting area, treatment room, or lab.
- Check and route urgent/stat results, and transfer faxes to the correct patient chart.
- Confirm demographic information in the EMR.
- Take vitals and enter required information in the EMR.
- Coordinate follow-up visits, treatment times, and outside lab appointments.
- Arrange outside appointments and remind patients of upcoming appointments.
- Process patient care summaries and send them to referral physicians or print for patients.
- Monitor daily intake and reschedule no-shows and cancellations.
- Prepare needles, bags, and trays for Chemo RNs.
- Assist in monitoring patients waiting for treatment and cleaning chairs between patients.
- Dispense medications, administer injections, and document in the MAR.
- Provide Medical Assistant coverage at additional practice locations as needed.
- Assist in the onboarding of new Medical Assistants and serve as a Preceptor.
- Oversee workflow and supervise Medical Assistants in the clinic.
- Coordinate with Physicians and Management to provide staff in critical areas of the clinic.
- Manage rescheduling of no-shows and cancellations, and record all correspondence in the EMR.
- Obtain prior authorizations for procedures and medications, and record approved and denied authorizations in the EMR.
- Work closely with billing to ensure timely authorizations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Exceptional assessment, critical thinking, and customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain emotional stability and work collaboratively.
- Ability to multitask efficiently and communicate clearly with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Requirements include completion of an accredited medical assistant program with certification, current CPR certification, excellent phlebotomy skills, knowledge of medical laboratory procedures, and basic computer knowledge. Previous Oncology/Hematology experience is preferred, and fluency in Spanish is required.
