Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Urban Dispatcher to join our team at Hill Country Transit District. As an Urban Dispatcher, you will play a critical role in the daily assignment of transit vehicles and bus drivers, ensuring the efficient operation of our transportation services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assign and cover transit runs in accordance with established procedures.
  • Control vehicle assignments or manifests to optimize fleet usage and meet service demands.
  • Update driver boards daily to ensure assignments are accurately posted and adhered to.
  • Respond to customer and employee inquiries via phone, cellular phone, or two-way radio.
  • Monitor and verify driver locations and assignments at all times.
  • Dispatch vehicles and emergency crews to accident or breakdown scenes as needed.
  • Coordinate field activities, including bus changes, passenger transfers, and manifest adjustments, to minimize passenger delays and maximize goodwill with drivers.
  • Collaborate with schedulers and maintenance staff to ensure vehicles are available for scheduled maintenance service.
  • Perform administrative tasks, such as preparing reports, correspondence, and memos, as needed.
  • Provide information to the public regarding transportation services, including route and schedule information and fare details.
  • Receive and resolve customer complaints or issues, escalating them to supervisors as necessary.
  • Report transit difficulties and other issues to the Chief Dispatcher or other departments to maintain or restore service and schedules.
  • Ensure the facility, work office location, and equipment are secured at the end of each shift.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • At least six (6) months of clerical experience required
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Ability to perform general office administrative activities, including using a personal computer, 10-key calculator, copying, filing, faxing, and using the telephone
  • Reliable means of communication, such as a home telephone or cellular phone
  • Availability to work varying shifts, hours, and days, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Regular attendance and reliability are critical to business operations
Working Conditions

The work environment is generally clean and healthy, with a quiet noise level. Dispatchers may work varying shifts, including early mornings and late evenings, and are expected to be available for training or staff meetings outside of their regular schedule.

Physical Demands
  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods
  • Able to stoop, kneel, and bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis
  • Able to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally
