This is a dynamic opportunity to join our team as an Activities Assistant. In this role, you will assist with planning and carrying out all activities for residents in our assisted living and memory care areas. You will work cooperatively with residents, volunteers, researchers, and family members to provide exceptional care and services.
Responsibilities- Plan and implement psycho-social activities, exercise classes, outdoor walks, and programs tailored to meet the needs of our residents.
- Provide personal care services to residents, including bathing, dressing, and grooming, and instrumental activities of daily living such as bed making and cleaning tables.
- Collaborate with the Director and other team members to ensure planned activities are well-balanced, coordinated, and integrated with the special needs of each resident.
- Assist with preparing the monthly newsletter and planning the monthly calendar of activities and events.
- Inventories supplies on a weekly basis and turns in requests for additional supplies to the Activity Program Director monthly.
- Decorate the facility, hang and change decorations, box and store decorations, and prepare for birthday parties and special events.
- Purchase prizes for games, clean up after activities, conduct Sittercize classes, tea parties, and Sing-A-Long sessions.
- Familiarize yourself with residents' charts and maintain confidentiality of resident records, services, and communication related to residents.
- Provide assistance with personal care needs in grooming as needed.
- Orient new residents to surroundings and demonstrate the use of call lights, light switches, bathroom fixtures, and room temperature control.
- Report changes in behavior or health status to shift nurse and practice safety at all times.
- Protect the personal dignity and physical safety of each resident.
- Work cooperatively with other staff members using a team approach to care.
- A minimum of high school diploma, some college preferred.
- Six months to one year in a geriatric care setting or extreme desire to learn.
- Effective communication skills, compassion, understanding, patience, and tact in dealing with residents, families, and coworkers.
