Postdoctoral Appointee - Electron Microscopy Research

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Appointee to join our team at Argonne National Laboratory, conducting cutting-edge research in electron microscopy. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art 4D Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (4D STEM) techniques, advancing our understanding of ferroelectric domain dynamics in hafnium zirconium oxide.

The postdoctoral appointee will be part of a dynamic team working on materials characterization, with access to advanced electron microscopy and nanofabrication facilities. This position offers ample opportunities for interdisciplinary research and collaboration with experts across CNM and Argonne National Laboratory.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute experimental programs utilizing time-resolved 4D STEM to study ferroelectric domain dynamics.
  • Investigate the influence of external stimuli, such as electric fields, on domain switching behavior and ferroelectric phase transitions.
  • Analyze and interpret data to uncover the fundamental mechanisms governing ferroelectricity at the nanoscale.
  • Collaborate with team members to apply these findings to novel device concepts.
  • Disseminate research findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at professional conferences.
Requirements
  • A recent Ph.D. (within the last 5 years or upcoming year) in materials science, physics, or a related field.
  • Expertise in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and 4D STEM techniques for characterizing nanoscale materials.
  • Experience in in situ electron microscopy and time-resolved experiments is highly desirable.
  • Skills in data analysis, evaluation, and interpretation related to high-resolution microscopy.
  • Familiarity with nanofabrication techniques is a plus.
What We Offer
  • A competitive annual salary of $75,000-$90,000, commensurate with experience.
  • A dynamic and collaborative research environment.
  • Access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.
