About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Humane Educator to join our team at Animal Humane Society. As a key member of our education department, you will play a vital role in developing and delivering engaging educational programs that promote animal welfare and compassion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement educational programs, curriculum, and activities that support animal welfare and education
  • Present and facilitate educational programs to groups of children and adults, both on-site and in the community
  • Conduct educational tours of facilities and plan and lead summer camp programming
  • Develop and implement humane education programs, curriculum, and activities that promote animal welfare and compassion
  • Adapt the progression of activities to meet the needs of individual and group needs
  • Practice safe handling during animal interactions with children and guests
  • Perform administrative duties to support department programs, including answering calls and emails, scheduling and booking programs, taking payments, submitting and cancelling registrations, running reports, printing, cutting, laminating, and ordering supplies
  • Provide care for animals designated for use in educational programs and pick up food and supplies for the animals as needed
Requirements
  • 2+ years of experience working with groups of children and teens required
  • Experience in curriculum development preferred
  • Desire to enthusiastically work with people of all ages and abilities, including children required
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent patience and adaptability
  • Ability to confidently engage with and lead large groups
  • Strong creativity and problem-solving skills
  • Strong administrative and classroom management skills
  • Proficient with computers, specifically a working knowledge of Microsoft products
Work Environment

The Humane Educator will work primarily in a classroom-based environment, with occasional exposure to animal shelter areas that may be humid, noisy, or odorous. The role may also require working at different sites based on department needs and attending occasional off-site meetings and events.
