Job Summary:

As a HIM Inpatient Coding Specialist II, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of medical records, while contributing to the organization's mission and values.

Responsibilities:
  • Review and analyze medical records to determine principal and secondary diagnoses, procedures, and co-morbidities with 96% accuracy.
  • Sequence diagnoses and procedures to obtain optimal DRG or APR-DRG assignment and demonstrate 96% accuracy.
  • Abstract and enter coded information into the Epic system for timely billing, including discharge disposition verification.
  • Prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, maintaining a consistent level of productivity and accuracy.
  • Refer charts requiring clarification of vague or unclear documentation to a Coding Quality Specialist for physician query.
  • Assign Coding Hold reasons to records that cannot be completed immediately due to missing information or physician query.
Credentials and Education:

Certified Coding Specialist-CCS (AHIMA) is required. RHIA or RHIT is preferred. A Bachelor of Arts or Science in Health Information Management or a related field is also preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology, as well as clinical disease processes. Ability to assess, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks in a stressful environment.
