Maintenance Operations Supervisor

The Maintenance Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily maintenance operations and supervising maintenance personnel in a designated cluster area. This role serves as the first point of contact for area superintendents, principals, and other school administrators. The successful candidate will be on-call 24/7 for emergency operations and routine call assignments.
Key Responsibilities
- Assume responsibility for maintaining existing physical plants in a safe and comfortable condition on a daily basis.
- Coordinate daily scheduling of work requests within designated clusters on a priority basis.
- Review work orders and performance data to ensure applicable standards and benchmarks are achieved.
- Practice and recommend preventive maintenance techniques to prolong the life cycle of existing buildings and equipment.
- Perform site visits and building inspections on a regular basis, consulting with school administrators and building managers regarding maintenance needs.
- Maintain building system records in hard copy or electronic format.
- Assist in managing departmental affairs in a fair and equitable manner, promoting positive employee morale.
- Assist in providing special training as needed for maintenance personnel.
- Practice and communicate standards of safety in the workplace and around students.
- Monitor departmental practices, supplies, and expenditures for efficient use of resources.
- Maintain a customer-focused perspective and promote a positive outlook while communicating effectively with school personnel, superiors, subordinates, peers, vendors, and the public.
- Assist in the recommendation of competent personnel for open positions.
- Assist in long-range planning and budget preparation.
An Associate's Degree in a related field or equivalent experience (2 years of similar work level experience = 1 year of college) is required. A combination of experience and education may be used to meet the Associate's Degree requirement. A valid driver's license is also required. Minimum 5 years of experience in construction or maintenance working with various trades is required, with experience in a supervisory or lead role preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must possess Journeyman's level knowledge of structural, mechanical, and electrical systems in school plants, including extensive knowledge of maintenance techniques, building materials, and tools of the various maintenance trades.
- Must be able to effectively use a computer as a tool for communication and data access, including familiarity with work order programs.
- Must have the skills to effectively lead, organize, and direct the work of others.
- Must be able to assist in the development and implementation of long-range planning.
- Must be able to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects, and responsibilities.
- Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues.
- Must be able to collaborate effectively with District personnel, the general public, and work with diverse groups of people.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Hazardous physical conditions (mechanical parts, electrical current, etc.).
- Atmospheric conditions (exposure to fumes, odors, dust, grease).
- Exposure to extreme temperatures.
- Exerting up to 100lbs force occasionally and/or up to 50lbs force frequently.
- Exerting up to 20lbs force constantly.
- Requires balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions.
