Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Billing Manager to join our team at Hospice of Michigan. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring all billing and patient financial services functions are completed timely, cash flow and revenue are maximized, and processes are monitored in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the organization's billing functions are administered appropriately throughout the organization and take action when required.
  • Monitor Accounts Receivable trends and metrics to ensure timely and accurate collections.
  • Establish effective relationships with facility partners for good communication and timely reporting and payments.
  • Work collaboratively with service operations and marketing staff to promote strong vendor and payer relationships.
  • Develop and maintain training materials on insurance matters for orientation and current staff education.
  • Build, maintain, and support an acceptable Electronic Palliative Physician Billing product.
  • Assess, lead, participate, and promote a culture of excellence and innovation at the employee, departmental, and organizational levels.
  • Participate or chair committees on a local, state, or federal level in relation to hospice, palliative care, and/or healthcare reimbursement.
  • Supervise the assigned PFS staff to ensure timely and compliant performance of support functions.
  • Maintain oversight of all allocated resources, including time, expenses, supplies, and labor, to achieve predetermined financial margins and outcomes.
  • Maintain payer contracts to maximize revenue, service, and quality.
  • Serve as a resource to ensure effective and integrated contracting, compliance, and reimbursement functions.
  • Advises/assists with strategy development related to the Strategic Plan and Operating Plan.
  • Direct the development of policies and procedures that promote effective and efficient operations.
  • Model and promote knowledge of palliative care and hospice philosophies and articulate and promote the vision, mission, and values locally, statewide, and nationally.
  • Uphold the NSCC policies, procedures, protocols, and processes and all regulatory and legal requirements.
Requirements
  • Billing/Coding certification or bachelor's degree in business or health-related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience in a healthcare billing position, including management of staff and excellent supervisory skills.
  • Extensive experience working in an electronic medical/health record system.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources required.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English and effectively communicate both orally and in writing with both internal and external audiences.
  • Must have experience in process improvement initiatives, be able to identify opportunities for improved efficiency, negotiations, financial management, compliance, and team leadership.
  • Experience in leading and providing support to diverse groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, effective organizational, prioritization, and follow-through skills, attention to detail, tact, dependability, emotional intelligence, and ability to maintain confidentiality and promote positive, constructive relationships with communication and collaboration at all levels.
  • The physical and sensory demands of the position include vision, effective speech and hearing for extensive telephone contact, repetitive motion, traveling, driving or riding in a motor vehicle, standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, and stretching, lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted.
  • Reliable transportation to be able to travel and maintain the rigors of a busy schedule required.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
