The University of Cincinnati is seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Specialist to join its esteemed team in the College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience.

Job Overview

This exciting opportunity involves working closely with international leaders committed to advancing the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral disorders. As a member of our dynamic team, you will provide outpatient services in collaboration with psychiatrists, psychologists, other advanced practice providers, and social workers.

Your primary responsibility will be to assist in providing comprehensive, continuous, and personalized care to adults with developmental disabilities who have co-morbid mental health disorders.

Essential Functions
  • Conduct thorough histories of new patients, gathering essential information to inform treatment plans.
  • Perform basic physical and psychosocial assessments to identify individual needs and develop effective care strategies.
  • Manage common episodic and chronic illnesses, administering medication and treatments as prescribed, and obtaining necessary consents.
  • Provide counseling and health training to support individuals in achieving optimal well-being.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records to ensure seamless communication among healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in research activities, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in mental health and developmental disabilities.
  • Supervise exempt and non-exempt staff, fostering a culture of excellence and professional growth.
Requirements

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • A Master's degree in nursing from an accredited program, or a Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • An active Ohio APRN license with prescriptive authority, or an active Ohio Physician Assistant license with prescriptive authority.
  • Certification in psychiatric-mental health as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (PMHCNS-BC) or a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), or a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Psychiatry.
  • At least three years of nursing experience, or a minimum of one year of experience as a Physician Assistant.
