Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Scientist to oversee the testing process and licensed/unlicensed testing personnel in the Infectious Disease Laboratory at PHASE Scientific Americas.

This position is responsible for ensuring the quality and accuracy of patient testing, as well as providing guidance and support to laboratory staff.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Oversee the testing process and testing personnel from pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of patient testing.
  • Perform DNA extraction and PCR-based Infectious Disease assay.
  • Report test quality and safety concerns to the Laboratory Director and Quality and EHS Specialist.
  • Participate in method validation and assay implementation in the clinical laboratory.
  • Practice all safety, environmental, and infection control methods set for the laboratory.
  • Responsible for evaluating the competency of all testing personnel and ensuring that staff maintain their competency to perform test procedures and report test results promptly, accurately, and proficiently.
  • Responsible for identifying training needs and ensuring that each individual performing tests receives regular in-service training and education appropriate for the type and complexity of the laboratory services performed.
  • Responsible for establishing a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed and establishing the parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensuring that these levels are maintained throughout the entire testing process from the initial receipt of the specimen, through sample analysis and reporting of test results.
  • Responsible for resolving technical problems and ensuring that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
  • Must be accessible to testing personnel at all times testing is performed to provide consultation to resolve technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for providing day-to-day supervision of high complexity test performance by a testing personnel. This position is onsite to provide direct supervision when high complexity testing is performed.
  • Responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
  • Ensure that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
  • Ensure that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning.
  • Perform annual evaluation and documentation of performance of all testing personnel.
  • Write standard operating procedures.
  • Perform other job-related duties.

  • Thorough understanding and experience of CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, OSHA, and California regulations.
  • Assay development and validation experience a plus.
  • Solid computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Education/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 4 years of experience in Molecular Microbiology, or Master's in Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field, with 2 years of experience in Molecular Microbiology.
  • Valid California CLS license (Generalist or Microbiology) is required.

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM with flexibility to work on weekends, as required to meet project milestones.
