The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute seeks a skilled Pharmacy Technician II - Infusion Specialist to provide technical support to pharmacy operations under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

This role will involve staffing in pharmacy locations/areas as required, with a focus on sterile compounding and inventory management.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pharmacy operations, with experience in compounding and inventory management.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Practicing as a pharmacy technician in accordance with federal, state, and DFCI policies, regulations, and standards.
  • Filling medication orders according to policy, while gaining proficiency with advanced preparations.
  • Utilizing multiple systems, including EHR and Inventory Management Systems, to complete and document duties.
  • Maintaining the pharmacy inventory, including sorting, stocking, rotation of stock, and expiration date checking.
  • Performing and documenting quality control steps as required for safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Performing cleaning of sterile and non-sterile areas of the pharmacy as assigned.
  • May be assigned to cross-cover other locations or areas, such as materials management, outpatient, or infusion.
  • Performing sterile and non-sterile compounding of hazardous drugs in compliance with USP and DFCI policies and procedures.
  • Stocking emergency medication as appropriate by site.
  • Sets up and logs pharmacy batch compound products.
  • Performs essential pharmacy inventory functions, including ordering and receiving.

Requirements include:

  • High School graduate or currently enrolled in an accredited entry-level degree program for Pharmacy or a related field.
  • 2 years of pharmacy technician experience, with at least 1 year of experience in compounding.
  • Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy Registration as a Pharmacy Technician required.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) must be obtained within 1 year of hire date.
  • Ability to accurately perform pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Ability to utilize pharmacy technology systems.
  • Ability to treat all others with respect and professionalism.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
