Job Summary
The District of Columbia Courts seeks a highly skilled and experienced Domestic Violence Division Attorney to join our team. As a key member of our Domestic Violence Division, you will play a critical role in reviewing cases, interviewing litigants, identifying legal issues, and negotiating proposed orders for judicial consideration. Your expertise in alternative dispute resolution techniques and skills will be essential in resolving complex domestic violence issues.

Responsibilities

  • Review cases and interview litigants to identify legal issues and negotiate proposed orders for judicial consideration.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda of law to support your recommendations.
  • Monitor and track changes in legislation that impact the domestic violence division.
  • Collaborate with judicial officers and other stakeholders to resolve civil and criminal matters related to domestic violence cases.
  • Conduct training on domestic violence for employees, judicial officers, outside agencies, schools, and other interest groups.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited university or college with a law degree and admission to practice law before the Courts of the District of Columbia.
  • At least three years of Domestic Violence practice experience with experience in Family Law preferred.
  • Ability to speak, interpret, read, and write Spanish and English fluently.
  • Must submit documentation of education (copy of law degree) with your application or your application will not be considered.
