Job Overview

St. John's Episcopal Hospital, a leading healthcare provider in southern Queens County and southwestern Nassau County, New York, is seeking an experienced Eligibility/Authorization Specialist to join its team.

As an Eligibility/Authorization Specialist, you will play a crucial role in securing prior authorization for chemotherapy infusions and related services. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients.

About the Role

This full-time position (75 hours biweekly) offers a competitive salary of $60,000 - $70,000 and a rewarding career path in the healthcare industry. If you have experience in medical billing, oncology, or a related field, we encourage you to apply.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Prior Authorization: Initiate and manage the prior authorization process, collect and submit required medical documentation, follow up on pending authorizations, and maintain accurate records.
  • Insurance Verification: Verify patient insurance eligibility, determine coverage limitations, and communicate insurance information to patients and healthcare providers.
  • Patient Communication: Educate patients about the prior authorization process, answer questions regarding insurance coverage, and provide updates on authorization status.
  • Data Management: Maintain accurate patient records, utilize electronic health records, and prepare reports on authorization status.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Medical billing certification preferred
  • Oncology experience or previous experience in the healthcare or insurance industry
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and insurance concepts
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
