Medical Records Specialist

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Records Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Release of Information (ROI) department, you will be responsible for supporting client sites in managing patient medical record requests.
About the Role
This is an excellent opportunity to leverage your expertise in working with electronic and physical records, ensuring timely and accurate fulfillment of patient requests. Your attention to detail, strong communication skills, and ability to work independently will make you a valuable asset to our team.
Key Responsibilities
- Determine which records to release by reviewing requestor information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and obtaining pertinent patient data from various sources.
- Answer phone calls concerning ROI issues and respond to walk-in customers requesting medical records, logging information into our database as needed.
- Process requests from physician offices on a priority basis and fax information to the office as required.
- Log medical record requests into our database and scan records into the system.
- Comply with site facility policies and regulations, handling and recording cash payments for requests when necessary.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Proficiency using computer applications, particularly data entry systems.
- One or more years of experience entering data into computer systems, with a strong background in working with electronic and physical records.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; prior work experience in a Release of Information environment is a plus.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA regulations is preferred.
