Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Platemaker to join our press department at the Chicago Tribune. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for creating and supplying high-quality printing plates for our presses.

About the Role:

This is a hands-on position that requires advanced computer skills for plate production and page planning. You will set up pages according to specifications, ensure a clean work environment, and perform physical tasks such as lifting plates and maintaining equipment.

Responsibilities:
  • Produce printing plates and plan page layouts using computer software
  • Set up 4-color and black & white pages as per design specifications
  • Interpret press layout instructions accurately for plate positioning
  • Maintain cleanliness in your work area and assist with equipment cleaning
  • Transport plates between storage areas using a hand jack
  • Collaborate with other production teams to ensure efficient operations
Requirements:
  • Advanced computer skills for plate making and page planning
  • Ability to work effectively under deadlines
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and organized workspace
  • Strong communication skills for teamwork across departments
  • Ability to lift and load plates weighing up to 50 lbs into imaging equipment
Estimated Salary Range:

$45,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on experience
