Responsibilities

Ascension/Dell Medical School is seeking an Acute Care Surgeon board certified/eligible in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care for acute care and level I trauma coverage at Dell Seton Medical Center at UT. Surgeon should be eligible for appointment as an Assistant Professor of Surgery Dell Medical at the University of Texas at Austin.

Position Highlights:

  • Part of core group of acute care surgeons that share in primary and back up call coverage and rounding to promote continuity of care
  • Dayshift rounding on active patient list 1 week per month
  • Acute Care and Level I Trauma Coverage
  • Staff Surgical ICU
  • Staff/oversight of surgery follow up clinic, after hospital discharge
  • No elective surgery practice optional but not required

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates and treats patients with appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills. Coordinates discharge planning with case management.
  • Recommends, participates in, and works to ensure the success of efforts to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care provided to patients.
  • Accepts patient referrals from other physicians. Acts as admitting, attending and/or consulting physician for patients who require hospitalization for primary medical diagnoses, depending on needs of patients, medical staff and hospital.
  • Participates in academic programs (e.g. medical education and research) as requested.
  • Provides appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.
  • Participates in inpatient and outpatient consultation for specialty, which may include on call schedules.
Requirements

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Required Credential(s):
Physician MD/DO credentialed from the Texas Medical Board.

Education:
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) required.
