Job Description:The respiratory therapist for Life Flight demonstrates advanced critical thinking in working autonomously and in collaboration with other health care providers in the delivery of care to critically ill or injured patients in diverse and non-traditional settings.Posting SpecificsShift Details: PRN- Variable ShiftsAdditional Details: Shift differentials given for evenings, nights and weekendsScopeAll Life Flight medical crew members are subject to certain work conditions while functioning in the full capacity of their position.These stressors include, but are not limited to:performance of essential job responsibilities in a moving aircraft or ground ambulance as well as the potential to do so in an outdoor environment (inclement weather, extremes of temperature, steep terrain, back country, etc.),exposure to noise, vibration, and dehydrating environment of an aircraft or ground ambulance,unpressurized helicopter flight at altitudes which may range to 10,000 feet,unexpected depressurization of fixed wing at altitude,exposure to patients with known or unknown infectious disease in an enclosed space.Life Flight medical crewmembers are required to participate in on-going random drug testing program.Job EssentialsProvides care based on review and analysis of patient information received from referring health care providers, the patient record, and initial and ongoing assessment of physical findings. Demonstrates effective, independent critical thinking process and autonomous and collaborative practice in the provision of patient care. Demonstrates proficiency in use of specialty team equipment in the transport environment.Communicates in an effective and timely manner with team members, communication specialists, control physicians, referring and receiving health care personnel, and patient/family members. Coordinates and effectively communicates decision making process and plan for patient care with team member and other health care providers, where possible and appropriate. Patient record/respiratory care record completed as defined by service.Ensures that patient care environment, equipment and supplies are available, clean and functioning appropriately. Maintains a safe environment for self, team members, and patients.Evaluates transports according to Life Flight Quality Management criteria and guidelines as defined by service.Actively seeks to develop self.Actively seeks to foster education and development of peers and other health care professionals. Presents/participates in selected case reviews in flight meetings. Participates in the education of team members and/or other health care providers.Minimum QualificationsCurrent License as a Registered Respiratory TherapistThree years’ experience post-graduation (CAMT’s requirement)Two years critical experience at hiring baseWork 24 hours a week in critical care/emergency roomBLS, PALS, and ACLSMaintain concurrent employment in critical care/emergency room.Maintain good standing in home department of Respiratory Therapy through out employment with IHC Life Flight.Ability and willingness to respond to the East side of the SLC International Airport within 30 minutes while on Fixed wing call.Responsible for 3-4 on-call shifts per month in 12-24 hour blocks. Shares in covering fair number of holidays, weekends and nights.Physical Requirements:Willing and able to lift 80lbs, twist, bend, and provide patient care in confined spaces.Able to tolerate the stresses of flying including excessive motion, vibration, and extreme temperatures.Pass the Life Flight Annual Physical Agility test.Must be able to buckle into aircraft/ground ambulance standard seatbelt.Location:Intermountain Health St George Regional HospitalWork City:St GeorgeWork State:UtahScheduled Weekly Hours:0The hourly range for this position is listed below.
