Position Title: Microbiology Technician Position Type: Regular - Full-Time Position Location: Appleton Requisition ID: 33068 JOB SUMMARYThe Regional Microbiology Technician performs microbiology tests on a wide variety of foods and ingredients, including finished product, in process, raw material and environmental samples. The Technician is responsible for compiling and evaluating microbiological data to determine and maintain food safety of products. Additionally, the Technician will conduct interpretation, report creation and presentation of results. The Microbiology Technician supports all functions in the microbiology laboratory. The position requires strong communication skills, technical expertise, and knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices.RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.Conduct microbiological testing for multiple production facilities at regional microbiology lab.Perform routine microbiological tests according to established regional procedures.Maintain accurate records of all testing performed in written and electronic documentation.Prepare all necessary microbiological media according to established procedures.Work with viable cultures in a safe manner in order to prevent cross-contamination of samples, the lab environment, or other lab personnel. Follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP's), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and established safety procedures.Ensure all microbiology testing results are documented and reported accurately in a timely manner.Preform Proficiency Testing Panel with the American Proficiency Institute on a regular basis and maintain passing results as proof of proficiency. Compile, trend and evaluate microbiological data for Finished Product and Environmental Monitoring Program on a daily basis.Maintain accurate records of lab supply inventory to ensure that appropriate quantities are available for testing. Perform and document routine maintenance of lab equipment to ensure proper operation. Attend training as assigned.Maintain general housekeeping of laboratory, incubators, water bath, freezers, fryers, and refrigerators.Develop microbiology testing protocol and policies as required.Provide support to plant microbiology laboratories as required.Perform additional job duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEBachelor's degree in Microbiology or related scientific discipline. Minimum requirements include a High School diploma with 1-2 years' experience in a microbiology laboratory, or equivalent laboratory which demonstrates working knowledge of laboratory practices and skill with a basic knowledge of microbiology through college courses or training workshops.SKILLSKnowledge of microbiological testing. Basic knowledge of HACCP and general GMP practices and procedures.Basic knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices.Ability to analyze data and draw logical conclusions with minimal guidance, and utilize problem-solving techniques for issues involving several variables. Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet skills(MS Word, Excel, Access, and SAP).Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, division, multiplication and simple percentages.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization, including management, customers and colleagues.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Excellent organizational and time management skills.Strong ability to work independently and with others and in a team environment.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to operate testing equipment including but not limited to: scales, PH Meter, stomachers, Autoclave, heat block, pipettes, electronic pipettors, and general office equipment.McCain Foods is an equal opportunity employer.
