Linux Security Engineer

Must be available to be on-site in Columbia, SC Day one, Monday - Friday from 9AM - 5PM as well as after hours.

Required Skills:

  • Extensive experience with IT security technologies such as Snort, Sourcefire, and Firepower.
  • Expertise in deploying and managing Rocky Linux, CentOS, Red Hat, or Oracle 8/7 operating systems.
  • Ability to apply OS patches, kernel upgrades, and maintain up-to-date server operating systems.
  • Strong administrative skills in managing Snort Intrusion Detection System (IDS) sensors, including designing signatures, tuning configurations, and implementing detection logic.
  • Proficiency in automating tasks using scripting languages such as Python or Ansible.
  • Experience in updating, configuring, and deploying security tools on Linux systems, including troubleshooting Linux servers and applications beyond basic tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of networking concepts, including routers, switches, VLANs, and VPN configuration.
  • Ability to assess existing network sensing topologies and identify system vulnerabilities.
  • Strong ability to provide recommendations on system deployment, security design, and improvements to operational workflows.
  • Experience with Security Operation Center (SOC) tools, such as log collectors and Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) systems.
  • Physical ability to lift, rack, and stack servers in a datacenter environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with centralized log management.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA ) certification.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-level support to customers, aiding in the development and implementation of security policies and protocols.
  • Occasionally provide security engineering and integration services for internal projects.
  • Develop detailed technical documentation for project support, including architecture review board materials.
  • Analyze security requirements for the management and administration of sensing technologies.
  • Provide technical support for solving information assurance-related security problems.
  • Design and implement security solutions, with a focus on IDS/IPS technologies.
  • Deploy and manage network sensors to monitor traffic flows and detect potential threats.
  • Ensure all information systems are functional, secure, and compliant with security standards.
  • Install, configure, and maintain security tools and services.
  • Provide expert recommendations on the collection, processing, and distribution of security data in cybersecurity environments.
  • Deploy and configure FireEye HX EDR agents across various endpoints and integrate FireEye HX with SIEM platforms.
  • Implement and manage automated scanning tools for identifying vulnerabilities in applications, including dynamic analysis (DAST) to assess running applications.
