We are looking for an Estimator for Agate Construction.

Wage Range: DOE (Depending on Experience)

Role Description:

Reports to the Preconstruction Service Director, manages and prepares estimates that are assigned by the Preconstruction Service Director. Represents the company during Preconstruction services performing value engineering, comparative and alternatives studies. Manages the work of assigned Estimating Engineers. Is responsible for the protection and promotion of the interest of Agate Construction Inc. in all business matters.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ability to successfully manage a $5M to $15M dollar estimate for a more complex project.
  • Conduct accurate quantity take-offs, studies, and complete estimate templates for all items incorporated in the project, anticipating details necessary to complete the project.
  • Coordinate the work of estimating engineers and Precon Administrator for the project.
  • Receive and properly record Trade Partner Bids in variance report.
  • Develop estimate strategy for review with Precon Manager and or Precon Services Director based on type of pursuit delivery or contract method. (i.e. Lump Sum, CM, Design Build, etc.)
  • Have technical knowledge of individual trades for divisions 1-14 to understand scopes of work and ability to evaluate bids.
  • Possess solid understanding of estimating principals and ability to apply them to all project types.
  • Prepare preliminary estimates and studies during Preconstruction, monitor design development cost trends to anticipate and manage over-runs and potential problem areas.
  • Participate in the value engineering process.
  • Review specifications for all general terms and project requirements and analyze to identify risk and terms that affect project Costs.
  • Coordinate with the Area Field Operations Manager on the project schedule and site logistics plans to be incorporated into the project estimate.
  • Prepare detailed scopes of work and distribute to all bidders.
  • Complete detailed review of design documents for constructability and ability to properly construct the design intent.
  • Create detailed and comprehensive qualifications, assumptions, and Clarifications (QAC).
  • Develop, update, and maintain unit cost data and key department design standards.
  • Interface with Clients and internal project team, provide timely and accurate reports, represent Agate at Precon meetings, etc.
  • Prepare General Conditions estimates for review by Field Operations Manager.
  • Interface with Trade Partners and suppliers. Evaluate bid proposals for completeness of assigned scope, knowledge of project, and ability to successfully complete the Work.
  • Support Business Development in proposal presentations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
Four-year college degree in engineering, construction management, building construction or similar is preferable and a minimum of ten years of estimating experience. Experience in project engineering, field supervision or purchasing is desirable. Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions and trade practices. Conceptual ability to work with minimum information. Excellent oral and written skills required. Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft office suite programs. Knowledge of Bluebeam, MS Project scheduling, and On-Center Takeoff software desirable.
