POSITION SUMMARY

The Cardiothoracic Surgery PA works closely with the supervising physician to coordinate a course of treatment for patients: perform histories, physical exams, pre and postoperative care, patient education, and discharge. The Cardiothoracic Surgery NP/PA will also perform procedures such as first assist in surgery, vein harvesting, and the placement and removal of chest tubes.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in cardiothoracic surgery: Knowledgeable regarding a Cardiothoracic Surgery NP/PA scope of practice.
  • Able to perform duties as first assist in surgery.
  • Demonstrated expertise in endoscopic vein harvest.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Independent performer.

Required Experience

  • Current California Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner license
  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner School
  • One to three (1-3) years direct patient care clinical experience.
  • One to three (1-3) years of surgical first assist experience
  • Evidence of continuing education and self-development to support license requirements
  • Board Certification: Board certified or board eligible
