Job Summary:
Performs behavioral health diagnostic and psycho-social assessments utilizing the DSM-V, implements group, family and individual psycho therapeutic interventions including crisis intervention, develops treatment plans and disposition plans. Maintains contact with family and community agencies and makes referrals. Represents the behavioral health enterprise on institutional and community committees/task forces.

  • Vanderbilt Behavioral Health, through its inpatient facility Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital, is the only inpatient provider of mental health services for children in Middle Tennessee. We offer highly specialized services for children ages 4-12 who have emotional or behavioral challenges and need immediate assistance. Each child's care is supervised by a board-certified child psychiatrist.
  • Our adult programs care for patients 18 and older. We offer personalized treatment programs tailored to specific needs such as Psychotic Disorder Program, Mood Disorders Program, Addictions Programs, and the Adult Partial Hospitalization Program.
  • Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital is a 106-bed hospital for children, adolescents, and adult patients.

Sign-On Bonus Details and Requirements

$4,000 sign-on bonus

The sign-on bonus is not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past twelve months. The sign-on bonus is only available for full-time positions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides initial assessment and develops plan of care according to TN Department of Mental Health, The Joint Commission and CMS Best Practice Guidelines and within the scope of their license by the Tennessee Health Related Boards.
  • Provides targeted evidence based interventions into clinical practice with patients.
  • Facilitates transitions to appropriate levels of care via in person, telephone or telehealth contact.
  • Acts as clinical liaison with patient, family, treatment team and community.
  • Contributes to the organization by actively participating in process improvement initiatives and shared decision making.
  • Engages in regularly scheduled supervision as required by the Tennessee Health Related Boards.
  • Maintains confidentiality and privilege in accordance with TN state codes and statutes.
  • Upholds ethical standards in accordance with relevant professional association's code of ethics.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree Social Work required (Required)
  • TN Licensed Master Social Worker status (by exam) must be completed prior to start date.

Consideration may be given to candidates that can obtain license/certification within 6 months, in accordance with state guidelines.

Displays knowledge of common risk identification methods such as objectives-based, scenario-based, taxonomy-based and common-risk checking.
