Supervises: Network Technicians in the Infrastructure Department of the Educational Technology Division
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Goals:
- To effectively lead an engineering team responsible for analyzing, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining and repairing of Baldwin County Public Schools' wide area network (WAN) and numerous Local Area Networks (LAN) infrastructure and application components.
- To successfully evaluate, maintain, install and train others to ensure a stable, reliable and high performing network that assists school system personnel in achieving educational and operational goals.
- To provide visionary and sound direction, information, and recommendations regarding optimal network configurations and installations to maximize system human and financial resources.
- Highschool Diploma. Technical certifications and/or Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated experience and proven performance with hardware and software related to performance responsibilities and job goals.
- Demonstrated experience and proven performance in leading a technical team.
- Possess and maintain valid driver's license.
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
- Strong organizational and project management skills including the ability to schedule, direct, and implement simultaneous projects or tasks to effectively meet multiple deadlines.
- Experience creating, monitoring, and implementing a complex budget.
- High level of personal initiative and ability to work without close supervision.
- High level of interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to relate complex technical concepts.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; agility and dexterity needed to stoop, bend, lift/move equipment (computers and/or peripherals, etc.) when necessary and to perform technical equipment inspections and/or repairs, including the inspection of cabling in floors and ceilings.
- Ability to plan work, schedule tasks, oversee projects, and supervise and evaluate the work of others as assigned.
- Ability to collaboratively plan for long-range goal achievement, to monitor plans, and provide constructive feedback for program improvement.
- Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member and leader.
- Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays when necessary.
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
- Such alternative qualifications to those listed as the Board may require.
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
- Advocates, supports, promotes and communicates all aspects of the Baldwin County School System technology programs, services and initiatives.
- Works within the school system community to promote excellent customer service, effective response times and provides expert insights into general support issues. Enforces quality of service guidelines for dealing with customers, completing services, and overall customer satisfaction.
- Coordinates technical infrastructure and systems with instructional goals through close interaction with appropriate administrators, faculty, and staff.
- Coordinates and supervises the work schedules and training for network technicians to ensure the timely completion of all projects and work orders.
- Coordinates with the other Educational Technology (ET) Support Services departments to ensure infrastructure and technical requirements are compatible with and support instructional and administrative processes and initiatives.
- Works with other divisions within the school system as well as all school administrators to review, approve, and/or provide technical solutions to satisfy identified goals and desired projects. This includes providing technical direction and expertise on any school's or system division's potential software purchases and/or construction projects.
- Provides information and direction on new and emerging trends in the field of technology.
- Designs and maintains the system's wide area network (WAN) to ensure it is scalable and accommodates future technologies; encompasses all aspects of the WAN including capacities, services, physical layout, and vendor management.
- Designs and maintains the system's centralized technical services, including, but not limited to, the storage area network or SAN, voice over-IP or VoIP system, virtualization, disaster recovery/business continuity, as well as school-based technical services (wiring and switch infrastructure, wireless network, virtualization).
- Writes and analyzes technical bid specifications and construction specifications as required by the needs and projects within the system or at a school.
- Designs, documents, and maintains system-level and school-level technical standards to ensure the efficient and consistent delivery of needed services, including, but not limited to, school network design, configuration of laptops, computers, switches and servers; standard operating technical procedures and processes.
- Plans and submits proposed budgets for all technology-related capital projects and services as well as annual/recurring projects and services. This includes, but is not limited to, prioritization of funding, regular maintenance of the ET budget items, and a solid working knowledge of budgetary practices.
- Assists in planning and submitting all E-rate applications.
- Collaborates as needed with technology grant applications, resource development projects, and system technology financial initiatives and resource reporting.
- Coordinates and supervises the work schedules and training for members of the ET Services Department as assigned.
- Coordinates with colleagues within the ET Services Department to ensure infrastructure and technical requirements are compatible with and support instructional and administrative processes and initiatives.
- Performs duties in a courteous and professional manner.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
- Models and maintains high ethical standards.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
- Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
- Participates successfully in training programs, professional development, or other learning to increase skill and proficiency related to job performance and leadership.
- Serves on school/system committees as required.
- Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
- Evaluates assigned personnel according to Board policies and procedures.
- Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
- Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
Terms of Employment: Twelve-month position in accordance with the Board's salary schedule.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Baldwin County Board of Education policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
