Community health is about more than just vaccines and checkups. It’s about giving people the resources they need to live their best lives. At Neighborhood, this is our vision. A community where everyone is healthy and happy. We’re with you every step of the way, with the care you need for each of life’s chapters. At Neighborhood, we are Better Together.

We have been doing this since 1969 and it is our employees that make this mission a reality. Regardless of the role, our team focuses on being compassionate, having integrity, being professional, always collaborating, and consistently going above and beyond. If that sounds like an organization you want to be a part of, we would love to have you.
***This position will be located in the San Diego area. The program will begin 01/14 (13 weeks at our Escondido location)***
What is APTA?
APTA The Advanced Practitioner Training Academy (APTA) is a 13-week intensive program for newly graduated Advanced Practice Providers (Pas or NPs) who have recently joined Neighborhood Healthcare. The program includes interactive didactic sessions on various medical topics, supervised clinical practice with preceptors and shadowing specialists in fields critical to primary care medicine, such as psychiatry, women’s health, and urgent care.
Why is this important?
Neighborhood Healthcare serves a complex patient population. Newly graduated Advanced Practice Providers are offered postgraduate training to enhance their acclimation to our patient population. Upon joining, APPs must quickly adapt to the EMR system, manage patient messages and lab results, handle administrative tasks, and
interact with services like podiatry and chiropractic care.
The APTA program aims to:
• Enhance clinical expertise
• Improve communication with support staff
• Master system navigation to reduce stress and increase efficiency
Importance of Shadowing Specialists
Behavioral Health: General Medicine APPs frequently encounter patients with substance addiction and psychiatric issues. By shadowing psychiatrists, APPs in the
APTA program gain deeper insights into behavioral health topics, learn when to refer patients to specialists, and understand appropriate pre-referral diagnostics. This
training helps APPs confidently manage common conditions like depression and anxiety, including prescribing medications such as SSRIs.
Women’s Health: APPs learn to handle issues like abnormal uterine bleeding, contraceptive options, evaluation for common conditions like polycystic ovarian
syndrome, and hormone replacement therapy. The program also offers proctored training for APPs interested in IUD and subdermal contraceptive inserts and removals.
Urgent Care: In urgent care settings, APPs work with physicians skilled in point of care ultrasound, incorporating these valuable skills into their training and
practice.
Overall, APTA provides comprehensive training to equip APPs with the necessary skills and confidence to deliver high-quality care to Neighborhood Healthcare’s diverse patient population.
As a Neighborhood Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner you will be part of a Care Team that is focused on providing the very best in patient experience. Amazing patient experiences begin with amazing providers. Our patients know that every time they walk through our doors, they can expect quality treatment from professionals who care.
