Position Title: Speech and Language Pathologist

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Valid Connecticut Department of Health License and certification by the Connecticut State Department of Education as a Speech Language Pathologist
  2. Experience as the Board and Administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
Reports to: Principal and Coordinator of Speech Language Services

JOB GOAL: To implement the schools' speech, language, and hearing program

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Participates as a member of the Planning and Placement Team (PPT) for students who are referred and evaluated for speech, language, or hearing or who are identified as needing such services. Fulfills the professional responsibilities established by the district for PPT members.
  2. Conducts diagnostic evaluations of students as recommended by the Planning and Placement Team and other periodic evaluations as required.
  3. Assists regular education teachers and the schools' Early Intervention Program (EIP) with pre-referral strategies for students for whom there are speech and/or language concerns.
  4. Develops an Individualized Educational Program for each child included in the speech language program as a special education student and reports on student progress on a regular basis.
  5. Maintains appropriate records on students involved in speech language services.
  6. With the coordinator, develops a schedule to provide language, speech and hearing services in the Bethel Public Schools and St. Mary School in Bethel.
  7. Conducts hearing screens in cooperation with school nurse and assists in the implementation and interpretation of the Hearing Conservation Program and makes referrals for further evaluation of hearing as necessary.
  8. Consults with, and serves as a resource person for, administrators, teachers, and parents in regard to specific children who demonstrate communication disorders.
  9. Interprets the Language, Speech and Hearing Program to staff, parents, and the community.
  10. Assists the Coordinator of Speech-Language Services and Director of Special Education and Pupil Services in the development of policies relative to the Language, Speech and Hearing Program.
  11. Carries out other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Speech-Language Services or the Director of Special Education and Pupil Services.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month year

EVALUATION: Performance evaluated in accordance with Board Policy #4115
