JOB SUMMARY
The Music Therapist in the PACE organization is responsible for enhancing cognitive function, social interaction, and emotional well-being for PACE participants with various behavioral health needs. The music therapist provides a blend of individual and group therapy sessions at the PACE center, or as needed in participants' homes or their facility if hospitalized. The therapist conducts comprehensive assessments to develop personalized treatment plans, focusing on using music to alleviate anxiety, depression, and agitation. The music therapist collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary team, documents participant progress, and communicates regularly with families to provide updates and support. Additionally, they engage in program development, staff training, and community outreach to promote the benefits of music therapy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of participants' musical abilities, preferences, and therapeutic needs.
  • Develop individualized music therapy treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Facilitate individual and group music therapy sessions tailored to the specific needs of participants, focusing on behavioral health and dementia support, and utilizing evidence-based approaches.
  • Utilize various music therapy techniques such as singing, instrument playing, songwriting, and music listening to address therapeutic goals.
  • Address behavioral health issues such as anxiety, depression, and agitation through music therapy interventions.
  • Work closely with the behavioral health team to integrate music therapy into participants' overall treatment plans.
  • Design and implement music therapy programs that stimulate cognitive function and memory recall in participants with dementia.
  • Use music to enhance communication, reduce agitation, and improve mood and social interactions among participants with dementia.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including physicians, nurses, social workers, and caregivers to ensure a holistic approach to participant care.
  • Communicate regularly with participants' families and caregivers to provide updates on progress and offer support and education on the benefits of music therapy.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and outcomes in the EMR.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of music therapy interventions and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
  • Provide education and training to staff and caregivers on the principles and benefits of music therapy.
  • Stay current with developments in the field of music therapy and incorporate best practices into programming.
Program Development:
  • Assist in the development and enhancement of the music therapy program, including the creation of new therapeutic activities and resources.
  • Participate in community outreach and promotional activities to raise awareness of the music therapy program.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and move musical equipment as needed.
  • Ability to engage in active music-making, including playing instruments and singing.
  • Ability to work in various settings, including participant homes, day centers, and community spaces.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in music therapy required.

Master's degree in music therapy preferred.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in music therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Board Certification (MT-BC) by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT).
  • State Creative Arts or Music Therapy licensure required, if applicable.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with elderly populations, particularly those with behavioral health needs and dementia.
  • Strong knowledge of music therapy techniques and interventions for behavioral health and dementia care.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team environment.
  • Compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to participant care.
  • Ability to design and implement creative and engaging music therapy sessions.
  • Proficiency in playing musical instruments and conducting music therapy sessions.

8:30 AM-5:00 PM

This position calls for employee to work at both our Lakehurst and Oceanport, NJ locations.
