General Summary of Job Duties:

The Norton Lilly International (NLI) internship program will provide a hands-on professional experience by offering real-world projects. Through NLI internship program you will learn about our company, industry, and business model. You’ll experience first-hand the many facets of our business, and network with smart, innovative, creative people dedicated to your professional growth and development.

The Business Analyst Intern will assist in financial planning, analysis, and projection for multiple divisions. They will work with Ultramar along with all NLI’s business units and its subsidiaries. The role will analyze revenues and expenditures to establish cost structures and determine capital budgeting for projects. Candidates should be comfortable working independently and with CEOs and other executive-level team members to set company-wide investment direction and policies. Other duties include but are not limited to:
  • Analyzes M&A and/or investment analysis, due diligence, and transaction execution.
  • Lead projects and prioritize multiple assignments and perform well in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Foster external partnerships and contract negotiations with prospective partners
  • Research, gather and disseminate competitive intelligence to assess the market.
  • Reviews monthly P & L revenue reports, processes, systems, and procedures.
  • Analyzes system design alternatives and identifies potential improvements to existing systems and processes.
  • Collaborates with appropriate staff to gather input and feedback concerning system needs.
  • Analyzing current and past financial data and performance.
  • Identifying trends in financial performance and providing recommendations for improvement and the ability to implement corrections.
  • Prepares and delivers comprehensive evaluations, proposals, and recommendations to executive leadership, committees, board meetings and other stakeholders.
  • Evaluating current capital expenditures and depreciation.
  • Assist in exploring investment opportunities.
  • Establishing and evaluating profit plans.
  • Coordinating with other members of the finance team to review financial information and forecasts.
  • Gathering critical information from meetings with various stakeholders and producing useful reports.
  • Resolves issues and problems related to system platforms.
  • Not all aspects of the job are covered by the descriptions; additional assignments assigned as required by the needs of the operational unit, company, or as directed by the CEO / CFO.
  • Position may change as the industry and technology evolve.
Requirements:
  • Junior or senior level in good standings and / or pursuing a Maritime, Information Systems, Computers or related a related field highly preferred.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred.
  • Available between the months of May – August.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office Products, including Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint. Experience using EPM/consolidation software, ERP systems, and business analytics too considered a plus.
  • Experience with Power BI Desktop - moderate understanding of data structuring, relational data building, visual creation, data interpretation highly preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of project and process management.
  • Strong analytical skills with strategic thinking and excellent relationship development skills to identify & execute M&A and joint venture projects successfully.
  • Strong financial modeling skills including discounted cash flow valuation, forecasting and accretion/dilution analysis.
  • Deep understanding of accounting concepts related to P&L and balance sheets.
  • Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and auditing standards.
  • Ability to liaise with middle and upper NLI management for scope negotiation in a manner that upholds NLI values.
  • Ability to positively interact and work collaboratively with a diverse group of people at all levels of the organization and across the globe. Genuine with high ethical standards and values and personal integrity and honesty.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion in handling of proprietary and confidential information.
  • Candidates should be comfortable working independently as well as part of a team simultaneously on multiple projects.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US.
  • Must be willing and able to travel regionally and internationally as required (Passport required).
  • Requires current Driver’s License with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
