Job Description
Job Title: Radiation Therapist

Job Specialty: Radiation Oncology

Job Duration: 9 months

Shift: 5x8s, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., no on-call requirements

Guaranteed Hours: 40 per week

Experience: Preferred 1 year of experience with Varian equipment/ARIA software

License: A.R.R.T. Radiation Therapy Technology Certification or registry eligible

Certifications: A.R.R.T. Radiation Therapy Technology Certification

Must-Have: ARRT certification

Job Description:
- Review patient prescriptions to ascertain the type of treatment required, location of affected areas, history of previous radiation treatment, etc.
- Safely position patients utilizing immobilization devices.
- Utilize appropriate treatment accessories as prescribed by the physician.
- Operate treatment machine (linear accelerator, HDR) precisely.
- Administer ionizing radiation as prescribed by the physician.
- Verify radiation prescription prior to treatment and confirm total radiation dose following treatment in patient charts.
- Document treatment in inpatient charts.
- Localize patient markings daily.
- Complete on-going imaging of patients as per departmental policy.
- Assist patients in coordinating appointment times for daily treatments, accommodating patient transportation, and other appointments.
- Refer patients to a social worker for counseling, transportation, and medical equipment needs, as appropriate.
- Refer patients to a nurse or physician for conditions requiring evaluation, as appropriate.
- Assume the duties of simulation and rotate through treatment areas as assigned.
- Responsible for cleaning therapy rooms and work area; maintain linen and medical supplies for treatment rooms.
- Adhere to the quality assurance policies of the department (chart checks, timeouts, machine warm-up, etc.).
- Teach radiation therapy students as defined by their educational requirements.
- Perform all other duties as assigned or requested.

Working Conditions:
- Normal office environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust, or extreme temperatures.
- Lifting of patients, moving and pushing wheelchairs/stretchers, and lifting of equipment above head, up to 50 lbs.
- Potential exposure to radiation; however, adherence to safety procedures minimizes the likelihood of danger.
- Frequent interaction with emotionally depressed and terminally/critically ill patients.

Education:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
