Job Description
Ensures an environment that encourages error identification, remediation, non-punitive reporting, and prevention through education, system redesign, or process improvement of adverse events. Ensures that Children's Healthcare of Atlanta continually analyzes and improves the safe use of medications with its patients. Assists Medication Safety Consultant in advocating for reduction of errors associated with the use of medications and other processes at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
Experience
- 5 years RN experience in a clinical setting
- Master's degree
- Experience in pediatrics helpful
- Epic experience preferred
- Knowledge of Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory standards
- Bachelor of Science in nursing
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact
- Strong quantitative skills and disciplined task management capabilities
- Knowledgeable about medication safety practices
- Excellent verbal and written skills appropriate for targeted audience
- Effective presentation skills, including the use of PowerPoint
- Knowledge of statistics and data collection principles
- Project management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access, or other database applications
- Works collaboratively with Medication Safety Consultant and all system departments to develop and implement error reduction strategies across the continuum of care.
- Provides management of system medication events utilizing detailed steps outlined in patient safety event response process.
- Provides system collaboration regarding development of medication safety education such as annual competencies, case studies, safety alerts, simulation training, and other educational programs.
- Maintains systemwide infusion pump processes and drug libraries.
- Works with Medication Safety Consultant and staff to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Participates actively in PNT committee and medication safety work group.
- Serves as the Adverse Drug Event-Hospital Acquired Condition data resource.
