Summary

Regularly provides engineering services in an engineering discipline, as a project/program leader, or in an area of technical specialty, in a technically sound, safe, timely, and cost-effective manner to enable SRP to realize its goals and objectives for providing water and energy related services.

What You'll Do
  • Performs as engineering project leader on portions of the Salt River pumped storage hydro project, including dam, power generating, water conveyance, transmission, and substation infrastructure.
  • Prepares specifications, evaluates bids, and prepares recommendation materials for management consideration when evaluating large or complex procurements valued in the tens to hundreds of millions of dollars.
  • May perform engineering design, analysis, and studies in an area of technical specialty requiring a significant knowledge in hydropower generation equipment, dam design, or tunneling.
  • Administers and reviews work performed by consultants and others, including owners engineer design reviews in area of technical discipline.
  • Prepares and/or conducts written and oral reports and presentations.
  • Oversees field work using contractors and/or SRP field crews, including performing field engineering necessary to resolve design or construction deficiencies.
  • Actively mentors less-experienced engineers on technical, project management, and/or best practices related activities.
  • Coordinate with SRP and external consultant subject matter experts to facilitate reviews of all aspects of greenfield hydropower plant development from design through commissioning.
  • Build and effectively manage relationships with partners and stakeholders to meet SRP and project objectives.
What It Takes To Succeed

This position will require an experienced engineer who has knowledge of the steps involving in developing long-lead resources (pumped storage hydro) valued at billions of dollars. New resource development is a high visibility effort that has critical reputational, political, and financial implications to SRP, and is the subject of significant attention from the SRP Board, external stakeholders, customers, and other members of the communities SRP serves. The following skills are required:
  • Demonstrated network of internal and external contacts including customers, outside agencies, and suppliers of significant equipment and services.
  • Ability to use engineering tools required for the job.
  • Fundamental understanding of the SRP power system, including hydropower generation, substation, and transmission design and construction.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including experience leading large, complex, multidisciplinary projects from inception through construction and commissioning.


Experience

Five (5) years full time experience actively engaged in engineering practice. Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work of the nature defined for the job of Senior Engineer.

Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years of experience at Level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of three years of experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.

Preference for background in mechanical or civil engineering.

Education

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution, ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) or any state or internationally recognized PE registration.

Testing and Certifications

Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver's license.

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
