The Junior Systems Administrator will play a vital role in supporting the technological infrastructure within the school district. This role will assist in maintaining and troubleshooting hardware, software, and network systems to ensure smooth operations across educational facilities. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and strong communication abilities to collaborate with various stakeholders within the school district.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers, workstations, and networking equipment.
  • Manage and maintain endpoint devices, including desktops, laptops, and mobile devices, using endpoint management solutions to ensure security, compliance, and optimal performance.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot problems, and implement solutions to ensure optimal functioning of Technology systems.
  • Assist in managing user accounts, permissions, and access rights within network systems and applications.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of security measures to protect against unauthorized access, viruses, and other cybersecurity threats.
  • Collaborate with the Technology team to plan and execute upgrades, patches, and system migrations
  • Document technical procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps for reference and training purposes.
  • Participate in Technology projects and initiatives as assigned, providing technical expertise and support to achieve project objectives.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in systems administration to contribute to ongoing improvements in the IT infrastructure.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience in managing group policies in a Windows Active Directory environment.
  • Familiarity with patch management strategies and tools.
  • Knowledge of software distribution techniques and technologies.
  • Understanding of IT infrastructure, systems, and networking concepts.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex automation issues.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to document processes and procedures effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with peers and other district staff.

  • Ability to work in a team and across departmental boundaries.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, or related software.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft operating system deployment tools including the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT)
  • Strong understanding of directory services (e.g., Active Directory, LDAP) and authentication protocols (e.g., LDAP, Kerberos, OAuth).
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Prior experience in a systems administration role or similar technical position is desirable, especially within an educational environment.
  • Proficiency in administering Windows and/or Linux server environments, Active Directory, and network infrastructure (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, etc.).
  • Proficiency in PowerShell and AutoIT scripting and automation.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace for Education is required.
  • Familiarity with single sign-on (SSO) solutions such as SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect, or Kerberos is a plus.
  • Familiarity with identity and access management (IAM) solutions such as Microsoft Identity Manager, Okta, Rapid Identity Automation, Classlink or similar platforms is a plus.
  • Knowledge of ITIL Foundation concepts is highly desired.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate are advantageous
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to bend, crouch, crawl, walk, and climb stairs as required.

Compensation:
Entry rate: Grade 14
Full-time, Non-union exempt position
