Job Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Implement social/emotional/behavioral interventions with special education students on an individual and/or small group basis including counseling and providing crisis intervention services as needed. Implement interventions including: family change, friendship, emotional and self-regulation groups, and others determined by student need.
  2. Support implementation of RTI (Response to Intervention) specific to social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students.
  3. Support teachers in the development of classroom-based accommodations to meet students social-emotional needs.
  4. Implement interventions and/or services on IEP's including: family change, friendship, ADHD groups, and others determined by student need.
  5. Conductdevelopmental guidance lessons in classroom settings, as planned in conjunction with the students IEP team and classroom teacher(s).
  6. Analyzeschool site and district social/emotional data where applicable; create, and implement site-based interventions in conjunction with building support for teachers and principal.
  7. Assist families to better understand the school and its programs and to strengthen the communication link between school and home.
  8. A liason to administrators, teachers, and families in identifying referrrals to outside support agencies.
  9. Responsible for case management of special education students.
  10. Complete required Due Process procedures within mandated time frames.
  11. Serves as member of a multidisciplinary team to assess and/or reassess students referred for special education services.
  12. Prepares and implements appropriate service plans for special education students, documents progress in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) and attends IEP meetings.
  13. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Specific Responsibilities:
  1. Help students both directly and indirectly with their educational, personal, social, emotional, or career oriented needs; it may be part of the guidance curriculum, individual planning, responsive services, system support or, in many cases, a blend of those factors.
  2. Serve on student support team.
  3. Provide assessments which involve preparation of social and developmental histories.
  4. Other tasks include administering social interaction instruments, interviewing parents, child and staff, observation of child in school, collection of agencies reports, and review of school information.
  5. Collaborative work in a fast-paced environment interacting with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community with multiple requests and concerns.
  6. Support and communicate with other administrators and staff.
  7. Respond in emergency situations.
  8. Know, interpret, and follow school District policies.
  9. May plan and coordinate the work of paraprofessionals and volunteers in the classroom.
  10. May provide input to the goal-setting process for paraprofessionals.
  11. Participates in a professional learning community on a regular basis.
  12. Participates in training on third party reimbursement and implement third party reimbursement tasks as needed.

Knowledge and Skills:

1. Demonstrated ability to apply appropriate skills in performing daily routines.
2. Demonstrated ability to operate a computer, software and necessary classroom technology.
3. Ability to develop effective and positive working relationships with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community.
4. Maintain professional composure while dealing with a variety of personalities and situations.

6. Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey
