Summary:
We are seeking a well-rounded Data Scientist to join our company on a full-time permanent basis and contribute to our search technology development efforts while being based out of our development office in New Hope, PA. As part of a small team, you will be responsible for taking on various responsibilities and embracing the Agile development approach in order to help us continue to develop high-quality products by being involved in cross-functional discussions and driving new innovative ideas. You will be exposed to the UI, front and backend, database, performance tuning, security design, and deployment.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
- 3+ years of JAVA software development experience is preferred: you must have excellent understanding of J2SE and deep architectural understanding of Java web applications & application servers [advanced educational accomplishments will also be considered].
- Good knowledge in some back-end technologies (i.e. Spring, Hibernate, Lucene, SQL, or others).
- Superior creative and innovative problem-solving skills.
- Initiative and the ability to work independently and especially in a team.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of the technologies related to search, linguistics applied to search, and Information Retrieval [IR] issues.
- Experience with technologies such as lucene, solr, or other IR technologies.
- Experience with the good and the bad of both successful and failed projects.
- Ability to slice and dice problems and tasks so they can be worked on by others and ability to mentor others (interns, rookies, and junior developers).
- Relaxed yet enthusiastic and motivated attitude towards the craft, company, and products.
- Collaborate with product design and engineering teams to develop an understanding of needs
- Research and devise innovative statistical models for data analysis
- Communicate findings to all stakeholders
- Enable smarter business processes by using analytics for meaningful insights
- Keep current with technical and industry developments
- Serve as lead data strategist to identify and integrate new datasets that can be leveraged through our product capabilities, and work closely with the engineering team in the development of data products
- Execute analytical experiments to help solve problems across various domains and industries
- Identify relevant data sources and sets to mine for client business needs, and collect large structured and unstructured datasets and variables
- Devise and utilize algorithms and models to mine big-data stores; perform data and error analysis to improve models; clean and validate data for uniformity and accuracy
- Analyze data for trends and patterns, and interpret data with clear objectives in mind
- Implement analytical models in production by collaborating with software developers and machine-learning engineers
- Collecting data through means such as analyzing business results or by setting up and managing new studies
- Transferring data into a new format to make it more appropriate for analysis
- Creating new, experimental frameworks to collect data
- Building tools to automate data collection
- Searching through large data sets for usable information
- Creating reports and presentations for business uses
- Correlating similar data to find actionable results
- Bachelor's degree is required.
- Knowledge in some of the standard front-end technologies like CSS, JavaScript (we use JQuery), REST, JSON. Experience with STRUTS, SPRING, SQL, HTML, XML, JavaScript and/or SCRUM is a plus.
- Knowledge of Open Source libraries, tools and frameworks, e.g. for logging, testing, and building.
- Excitement for the latest trends in application design.
- Experience with agile software development methodologies like XP and Scrum.
- Interest to learn more about new languages and frameworks.
- Proficiency with data mining, mathematics, and statistical analysis
- Advanced experience in pattern recognition and predictive modeling
- Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau, SQL, and programming languages (ex: Java/Python, SAS)
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, research-oriented group that has several concurrent projects
- Exceptional technical writing skills
- Ability to communicate complex data in a simple, actionable way
- Ability to visualize data in the most effective way possible for a given project or study
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with machine learning and AI
