Seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support our federal government client in Aiken, SC.

Requirements:

The Contractor will keep assigned applications operational by testing product upgrades, providing customer support, and problem-solving customer issues. Plans for information systems and services from a perspective of application design, development, installation, or database administration in accordance with SRNS IT processes and procedures. Provides tactical design, engineering, technical specifications, project coordination, and configuration management for moderately complex IT solutions. Assists more senior technical personnel in performing related activities and moderately complex tasks.

Work closely with the Soſtware Professional Lead and the customer/owner to understand and apply your knowledge of the functional and system requirements.

  • Maintain technical expertise in assigned emphasis areas and demonstrate flexibility in multiple disciplines
  • Proactively communicate and coordinate with others across IT to provide support for assigned areas
  • Perform other tasks associated with application development lifecycle, commercial off the-shelf software support, and database administration
  • Perform root cause analysis and outline correct action for complex problems
  • Ensure continued service of customer applications through prompt correction of system or program malfunctions and applying a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus on the right priorities
  • Master software engineering tools such as configuration management systems, change management, vulnerability scanning, and debuggers in the software development process
  • Guide personnel to ensure efficient utilization of resources and adherence to technical standards; lead the analysis and development of requirements, design specs, and final products by reviewing systems documentation, plans, and schedules produced by less experienced personnel
  • Train less experienced personnel in the development of requirements, specifications, technical products, and existing business processes
  • Lead moderate-sized initiatives and projects by establishing tasks, priorities, milestones, cost estimates, and schedules
  • Conduct feasibility studies of automaton opportunities and establish cost benefit parameters
  • Develop test plans and execute these plans to ensure that the software is correct
  • Participate in validation and efficiency reviews of completed program code
  • Review policies and procedures for technical accuracy
  • Participate in cross-functional IT teams
  • Evaluate new requests, offer suggestions to improve, provide comments, and estimate the level of effort for moderately complex IT solutions
  • Provide support for the software infrastructure associated with the system environments
  • Maintain cyber posture and compliance required to maintain federal authority to operate
  • Perform installations and upgrades to software and databases to maintain vendor support and strategic agility
  • Plan for future requirements of database systems, including disaster recovery needs and storage requirements
  • Protect operations by keeping information confidential.
Work Hours: A 40-hour work week is scheduled. The client utilizes various work schedules, including 5/8s (8 hours/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80s (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has a 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager. The anticipated work hours are Monday - Thursday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Area Security Access: The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments.

Qualifications:

Required
  • Must demonstrate 15 or more years of experience in software engineering-related positions, including a minimum of 10 years of experience on DOE projects
  • Knowledge of the academic as well as the practical aspects of Soſtware Engineering is required. Ongoing technical development in Soſtware Engineering is required
  • Demonstrates an applied understanding of computer languages, software development fundamentals/methodology, and database infrastructure.
  • Demonstrates programming skills that include analyzing information, software design, requirements, testing, documentation, problem-solving, debugging, and software development fundamentals/methodology
  • Demonstrate proficiency and experience necessary to develop moderately complex soſtware
  • Demonstrates ability to utilize software engineering tools such as configuration management systems, change management, scanning, and debuggers in the software development process
  • Ability to work with minimal direction and supervision to complete projects in a timely manner, make time for unplanned assignments, and adapt to changing priorities
  • Understands and applies advanced knowledge of the discipline's standard theories, concepts, principles, and techniques; has working knowledge of standard software engineering practices and applications
  • Must demonstrate experience participating in systems engineering teams with responsibilities, including software engineering and program development, to support systems engineering initiatives
  • Candidate must be able to work independently and within a multi-discipline team
  • Occasional travel is required
  • Must be able to provide professional references
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance
Education
  • A Bachelor's degree in an IT-related discipline (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Technology, Soſtware Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering) with 5 years of proven performance in related assignments or a Non-related Bachelor's degree with 7 years of proven performance
    in a related assignment(s); or
  • Associate Degree in IT-related discipline (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Technology, Soſtware Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering) with 7 years of proven performance in the related assignment(s); or Non-related Associate Degree with 9 years of proven performance in the related assignment(s).
  • In lieu of degree, a high school diploma with typically at least 11 years of equivalent knowledge and experience is acceptable.
Preferred
  • Prior SRS experience and working knowledge of SRNS processes and procedures
  • Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years
